Magic
Rune Forge
Gavin comes from a distinguished family of forge masters that are able to work magic into items and even living beings. For that reason, the family has been systematically destroyed over the centuries for practicing forbidden magic. The last of his line, Gavin has hidden himself away under the guise of a normal blacksmith seeking the knowledge of his ancestors.
Passive:
Appraise Magic - Gavin is able to determine whether or not an item is imbued with magical properties, as well as when magic is activated nearby. He is also able to determine how the item was made and learn the technique to make it himself with enough time to study the object.
Offense:
Hand of the Forge - Gavin’s right hand possesses the ability to burn with the intense magic required to forge weapons and armor with magical properties. The heat is able to melt through most substances with sustained contact. This is the signature ability of his family that all have possessed before him.
Magnum Opus - Crafted by the first head of the family and passed down for generations, the Magnum Opus is a magic tool that takes the shape of whatever the wielder desires. It's most prominent form is that of a large hammer. Powered only by the Hand of the Forge.
Intensity of the Forge - Gavin focuses his magic to bolster his offensive power, a glowing orange aura surrounds him when under the effects of this magic. He also radiates oppressive heat in a small radius around him, expanding with the level of power used.
Slag Blast - Gavin is able to eject shrapnel and embers in a concussive blast from his right hand for a short to medium ranged projectile.
Forging Strike - Using Magnum Opus, Gavin slams his hammer into the ground causing a powerful shockwave. This is followed by erupting geysers of flame in the affected area.
Defense:
Tempered Tranquility - Gavin’s body is resilient to magic and physical attacks due to his constant exposure to strong magic and the physical labor required to forge magical armaments.
Anvil’s Might - Gavin becomes as tough and immovable as an anvil. He is unable to move faster than a walking pace while in this form.
Utility:
Rune Forge - Gavin is an expert on magic runes and is able to use his Hand of the Forge to directly inscribe them onto objects (and living beings) to adjust their magical properties. More powerful runewords are longer and therefore require increased time to write them out, while other words only require a character or two and can be used in battle.
Runeword Properties and Rules:
The more descriptive and elaborate the runeword, the stronger it is. Therefore single words are weaker than sentences. They also compound the strength with multiple synonyms or repeated runes used in conjunction. An example would be “Fire” would create a weak flame, “Fire Fire Fire” would create a stronger flame, however it still uses simple words so it would pale comparison to “Erupting Burning Inferno of Hellfire”. The difference is time taken to inscribe the rune and magic power required.
If a runeword is inscribed on the ground, it creates a small area around the rune with the desired property. This property applies to anyone within the rune's radius. For example if a "Power" rune is inscribed, any individual (friend or foe) who stands within the radius is empowered.
Forbidden:
Gavin is able to modify the very magic reserves of an individual. In the past his family was forced by people in power to create armies of low rank mages out of ordinary citizens. By opening their ability to use magic, these lesser mages can then promote the natural growth of their own magic. His family was hunted down and exterminated for this power.
